Who: Karren Brady, VC of West Ham United and Tory Peer
“British teams could find it harder to sign top European players if the UK votes to sever ties with Brussels, Karren Brady has warned club chairmen. The Tory peer, vice-chairman of West Ham United, has written to professional teams to warn that “cutting ourselves off from Europe would have devastating consequences” for both the economy and the competitiveness of British football.(1)
THE CASE FOR A #FREEBRITAIN
"Our national game is brilliant and it is a global brand. The Premier League is followed around the world like no other because it is a showcase for the most exciting football anywhere. (2)
It is an incredible asset for Britain. But it can become even better – and at the same time improve the opportunities football gives our young people. Making the changes we need means taking back control of the game we love.
Ask any fan, like me, up and down the country – they want to see more people from this country in top-flight football. To create this level playing field, the most vital changes we need are at the youth level. Then we can get the conveyor belt working properly and a steady stream of top-quality young British players having the chance to come through.
If we Vote Leave we can still have the top quality players from around Europe, like we currently have top players from outside of Europe, like new PFA Player of the year Riyad Mahrez. It just means British talent won’t be drowned out by average cheaper players from throughout the EU. Vote Leave to take back control of the game we love dearly.
