The EU is a Danger to Representative Democracy
The European Union sucks powers away from the nation-states of Europe and transfers them to unelected bureaucrats in institutions in Brussels. This reduces the powers that national parliaments of Europe, including the House of Commons in the UK, have to make their own national laws. Imagine if the Organization of American States (OAS) took it upon itself to decide a whole range of issues that affect the United States from in what waters its fishermen can fish to the power of suction on its vacuum cleaners! The US vigorously defends its own sovereignty at every chance. It should support those in Britain who do not want political union that damages the sovereignty of other democracies. Brexit would be a victory for true democrats everywhere.
The EU Damages the Transatlantic Security Alliance
Since 1949, the chosen US way for promoting transatlantic security has been the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). But through its Common Security and Defence Policy, the EU is seeking to develop its own military capabilities. Every pound or euro that European nations spend on the EU is one not spent on capabilities on which NATO can draw upon in time of need. By their actions unelected EU policymakers undermine the transatlantic political alliance and the ‘special relationship’ between America and the UK which has been the bedrock of transatlantic security since 1945. By increasingly forcing EU nations into an agreed, one size fits all defence policy, the EU makes it harder for the US to work with countries like Britain which have proven military capabilities.
The EU is Bad for Transatlantic Finance and Trade with the US
A vital transatlantic connection between the UK and the US is the link between Wall Street and the City of London. The EU uses Eurozone rules to discriminate against London and diminish its place as a major foreign exchange earner for UK Inc. The UK can only truly protect the free markets of The City and its Wall Street relationship by leaving the EU. There is a common belief in the US that EU is a free trade area. In fact, the EU is a managed, socialist, market that is skeptical of free trade unless it can write terms of such trade in a way that favours the heavily managed, bureaucratic model that it promotes within the EU. As a result attacks on US companies like Google are increasing. Brexit means Britain can negotiate a genuine bilateral free trade agreement with the US.
The EU’s Current 'Open Door' Migration Policy Discriminates Against Americans
The internal freedom of movement and employment that the EU promotes is understandably popular both with tourists and in Eastern Europe. Yet in practice, the EU requires its member nations to discriminate in their employment markets against foreign nationals, including Americans. Brexit would enable Britain to design its own immigration and employment policies and to end a system that requires it to discriminate against talent from the 93 percent of the world’s population that lives outside the EU. The only way for United Kingdom to be able to craft a fair and ethical migration policy for American citizens is for Britain to exit the EU.
